Mosaic Monday, Mellow Yellow, Ruby Tuesday, Blue Monday and Scenic Sunday / Morongo Thunder and Lightning Powwow, Cabazon, California USA

We attended the 20th Annual Morongo Thunder and Lightning Powwow in Cabazon, California USA.
It was sponsored by the Morongo Band of Mission Indians.
There were 700+ dancers during the evening in every color combination there could be, with most of them on the floor at one time.
I watched this young lady preparing for the event with the help of her mother, and then she walked past us as she greeted friends and other family members.

These ladies were sharing some conversation as the men danced.
Tribes were represented from California to as far away as Oklahoma.

It was very difficult for me to capture focused shots because of intense movement on the floor.
It was such a beautiful sight but so difficult to photograph!
These are the best I could produce.

Oh, the dancing, the drums and the native songs...
It was quite a learning experience for my husband and me!

****
This will be my last post for about 10 or 11 days.  My husband and I are leaving for a road trip to New Mexico with stops in Arizona along the way.  We will be spending several days in Albuquerque, New Mexico for the Hot Air Balloon Fiesta...the "grand-pappy" of all balloon festivals!
Then we'll move up to Santa Fe for a few days.  I am looking forward to visiting the ruins of Aztec and Zuni pueblos around Gallup, New Mexico and in the north-western part of the state.
We could never just pass by the Grand Canyon or Sedona, Arizona...we'll be spending some time there as well.
My camera will be VERY busy along the way!
I look forward to sharing our adventures when we return.

Weekend Reflections / A Working Harbor During the Blue Hour

The beautiful blue hour provided some nice light reflections in the wet sand.
This shot was taken from Cabrillo Beach looking towards the Port of Los Angeles in San Pedro, California USA.

Blue Monday, Midweek Blues, Mellow Yellow & That's My World Tuesday / Urban Lamp Sculpture @ Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA), Los Angeles, California USA

These lamps are part of the 202 lamp posts that make up the Urban Lamp Sculpture at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA).
It's amazing to see day or night but, when lighted they are spectacular!
Children and adults like to run around chasing each other.

This little guy is running from his daddy!

There was quite a nice sky from this angle.
I wish I could have gotten on a roof for another perspective...but...

Weekend Reflections - Cabillo Beach Lights Up at Night - San Pedro, California USA

Cabrillo Beach sits beside San Pedro Harbor and is brilliantly illuminated at night.
The breakwater and pier are a wonderful place to view the lights of the city of San Pedro and Long Beach, both night and day.

SkyWatch Friday & Looking at the Sky on Friday - Sunset Behind the Point at Dana Point, California USA -

Sunset behind the "point" at Dana Point, Californiaon September 10, 2010.
We were sitting on the breakwater hoping a rogue wave wouldn't put us in orbit, but
thankfully, all went well.
I don't fish but it seems that I have a lot of fishing poles in my ocean photos.

ABC Wednesday / "I" is for Import

Port of Los Angeles (San Pedro), California USA
I have read that most of these containers leave the Port of Los Angeles empty and return full.
Hmmm...import more than we export...no wonder people are out of work in the U.S.A.

The theme is the letter I this week.

That's My World Tuesday, Ruby Tuesday / More Tall Ships in the Sunset

I'm continuing with my tall ships from last Friday night.
The sunset parade of Tall Ships is an annual event here in Dana Point, California.
Friday night is the best part of the weekend festival...that's my opinion, anyway.
"Yo Ho Yo Ho, a pirates life for me!"

This red "ship" just might be my favorite.

The pirate ship sails to the harbor.
My husband and I, along with hoards of other people, like to sit on the breakwater to watch these old schooners...hoping a rogue wave doesn't knock us into the harbor on the other side of the wall!
The light and colors change dramatically during the 1/2 hour these "ships" come into view.

See it Sunday, Mellow Yellow, Blue Monday, Midweek Blues / Tall Ships at Dana Point, California USA

Two of 7 tall ships participating in a sunset parade at Dana Point, California.
The Tall Ship Festival is an annual event here and we especially like sitting out on the breakwater to view the sunset parade.
The "ships" glow in the awesome light of sunset.

Weekend Reflections - Pier Wall

This is a cement wall alongside the pier at Seal Beach, California USA.
First the colors caught my eye and then the reflections in the wet sand convinced me it was "camera" time.

There is so much beach for play, but some prefer to be up against this wall...hmmm, go figure...

The colors in the east were like a giant bowl of sherbet during sunset on this evening.
