Little Boys Play

My grandson (blue shirt) enjoys his best friend at school.
They just had their end of the year Kindergarten celebration.
Two more school days and then they will be officially 1st graders!

They both like to run and chase each other!

great exercise for staying slim and strong!

 Another friend joins them.

 Bet you can't catch me!

Girls like to run, too!

Giant Bubbles on San Diego Bay

May 11, 2013
The view is from Coronado across the bay to downtown San Diego.

Onward to Milford Sound, South Island, New Zealand

The journey along the Te Anau - Milford Highway gets more spectacular with each km traveled.
This is a shot of a random forest with a slow shutter speed from a moving coach.
(somewhere near Mirror Lake)

The peaks and valleys are covered in dense fog and dripping rain.

There's more and more curvy road ahead!

Milford Sound straight ahead (on a curvy road)!

Some side roads are open but close early even 3 days before the beginning of the summer season.

We followed this rushing stream part of the way.

The walls of the valleys are covered with waterfalls!

 Brrrr...it's cold!

 more waterfalls

We are at the snow level now before we dip back down to sea level.

Road repairs continue after an early spring avalanche.

A Kea Mountain Parrot sits in a road pull-out area hoping for treats from travelers.
This is the first one we saw but there were many more as our travels continued.

A lady is in awe of the majestic scenes before her, as we were also.

 ...a photo op I am glad I didn't miss!

 dense fog!

It seems Jerry is about to take a quick snooze since the view has disappeared for a few minutes!
Milford Sound is just a short distance now.

Te Anau - Milford Highway, South Island, New Zealand

We are now on our way to Milford Sound.
The day was filled with incredible beauty as we travel along highway 94 (Te Anau - Milford Highway).

The journey was every bit as wonderful as the destination!
The 119km road from Te Anau to Milford Sound is the most easily accessible taste of the vast wilderness of the area, short of hiking into the Fiordland's wilderness.

...so curious where some of these side roads lead.

We made a 15 to 20 minute stop here in Eglinton Valley.

a sheer scenic wonder!

Jerry wanders in sometimes different directions than where I wander.

Our next stop along the Te Anau - Milord Highway was Mirror Lakes.
This is the closest lake to the road.

Not much bigger than a pond but so lovely.

 a view through the trees

 water plants and reflections

 Jerry's clever find!

wild lupine blooming this time of year (late November).

an always interesting map of the journey

and, another sign to remind us where we have been.
