The Wurstelprater - Vienna, Austria

This is one of two ferris wheels at the Wurstelprater Amusement Park in Vienna, Austria.
It looked GREAT against a very blue sky!

This is the other...called the Riesenrad Ferris wheel.
It is the most recognizable attraction at the park.
Erected in 1897 to celebrate the Golden Jubilee of  Emperor Franz Joseph, it ranks among the world's oldest and largest ferris wheels, reaching a height of 65 meters.

This is the Riesenrad from another perspective.

Blue Monday

The Schönbruun Palace and Gloriette - Vienna, Austria

The Schönbruun Palace Garden Gloriette was once used as a focal point for the garden and also the dining and festival hall for emperor Franz Joseph I.
Today it is a popular cafe which we enjoyed for breakfast last month (March 2012).
A view of the Schönbruun Palace from the Gloriette is stunning.

Unfortunately the gardens haven't come to be so early in spring since this past winter was especially brutal in Europe.
A late spring, summer and fall view would be all the more beautiful!

My friend, Sally, and I were lazy and rode it up to the castle.

They Know the Way

I just returned from a trip to Europe where I visited the Czech Republic, Hungary and Austria.
This photo was taken in the countryside of Hungary during the early evening.
We were riding on a horse drawn carriage to the ruins of a monastery.

We clip-clopped through a local village...

and, through the woods.

This is the ruins of Salföldi Pálos Kolostorrom Monastery which was built in the 14th/15th centuries in Gothic style and eventually destroyed by the Turks.

We explored the interior of the church...loved the arches!

This room was breathtaking...

Two of my friends suddenly appeared...
Jenny Downing from England and Agnes Kiss from Hungary...

...and my friend from childhood, Sally.

It's getting late...time to return to the village!
And, yes...it was cold in Hungary during the month of March!
