Blue Monday, Mellow Yellow / Salton Sea - Empty Beach

We spent some time out at the Salton Sea, (California)  this afternoon.  This was a water-sports' paradise back in the 1950's and 1960's.  Since then the salinity levels have increased so much that the area has a strong stench of dead fish, especially in hot weather.
It was a pleasant 68 degrees (F) today...not too stinky.
I will be posting more photos in the coming days and some will be quite graphic showing the skeletal remains of the fish. The shoreline is covered with birds feasting on very salty fish!
Needless to say...my shoes are outside and will stay there after an afternoon walking the shores of this quite scenic, but stinky place!

Great water view! So sad about the salinity destroying the total appeal of this area!

shame it has to smell so bad.
I wonder if it is 'fixable'?

The picture would lend itself to being beautiful.. Maybe if you didn't mind the smell though.. Have a great Monday!

I love those blue skies! Here in Florida, we have much the same.

Happy Blue Monday, Carolyn.

A great photo Carolyn! I haven't been there in a long time. I remember when I was a kid, it was pretty vibrant back then. A lot of people don't know that it is one of the lowest elevation places in the world (just a few feet higher than Death Valley). Also, the San Andreas fault runs right through the middle of it.

Hubby had a boat before we married and would take it to the Salton Sea.
This is a place I've been thinking I need to get to for my "Around California" blog but Imperial is the only county in California I dread going to; first because it is so far away, second because it doesn't sound appealing.

Beautiful and stinky! I love it!! I really do love your gorgeous blue skies! Haven't been there in a long time, but it still looks lovely -- even if it is stinky! Don't forget to leave your shoes outside! Have a great week, Carolyn!

The Salton Sea is such a desolate, lonely place--a perfect place to find beauty, if one is observant, as you are.

THE SEEKERS OF YELLOW

The seekers of yellow, they say,
Will have a most terrible day
Should they not behold
Cream, amber or gold
To burnish life’s dull shades of grey.
