Aillwee Cave

This cave is the easiest way to sample the massive system of caves that underlie the Burren. Our guide walked us 300 yards into the cave complete with a 45 minute geology lesson.
During the Ice-Age, underground rivers carved countless caves such as this one.
Brown bears, which became extinct in Ireland a thousand years ago, found them great for hibernating.

A Brown bear's hibernation den from at least 1000 years ago.
Bones are visible in this den.

Another bear den.

The cave is a constant 50° F.
Sweater weather!
