We are now on our way to Milford Sound.
The day was filled with incredible beauty as we travel along highway 94 (Te Anau - Milford Highway).
The journey was every bit as wonderful as the destination!
The 119km road from Te Anau to Milford Sound is the most easily accessible taste of the vast wilderness of the area, short of hiking into the Fiordland's wilderness.

...so curious where some of these side roads lead.
We made a 15 to 20 minute stop here in Eglinton Valley.
Our next stop along the Te Anau - Milord Highway was Mirror Lakes.
This is the closest lake to the road.
Not much bigger than a pond but so lovely.
a view through the trees
water plants and reflections
Jerry's clever find!
wild lupine blooming this time of year (late November).
an always interesting map of the journey
and, another sign to remind us where we have been.

We had heavy rain the day we went to Milford Sound and the mountains were like a curtain of waterfalls. It stopped for the return journey during which we visited Mirror Lake.
