Scenic Sunday / Freight Trains on Cajon Pass, California USA

My little grandson really has me hooked on trains now!
This time I took my dog out to the high desert to watch one freight train after another wind through the mountain passes.
This train was heading eastward from Los Angeles.
I loved hearing its whistle long before I could see it.

This is the same train as it passed where I was standing, but, another is coming around the bend heading westward towards Los Angeles.
My dog was very curious at what was so big and noisy down below!

Funny, I went to a train station today to take photos and one of the conductors came over nicely and asked if I knew you weren't allowed to take photos of trains since 9-11 without permission from the transportation authority. I asked him how one did that...he ended up telling me I would be fine as long as I don't look suspicious....I hardly think standing on the platform on a sunny day is looking suspicious. If I was up to something I would not let them see the camera! Ha...who knew.

I remember riding a train as a small child, and it had to curl around itself, so to speak, to climb the grade. I think that might have been southern California, but it was a long time ago!

Nice shots, and I'm glad no one thought you were in cahoots with any bad guys!

I didn't encounter any problems at all. In fact, there were several other people in various locations shooting photos, too. Maybe the problems is in or around train stations, as it is with airports, etc.

Hi Carol, Thanks for dropping by On This Side of Town, great capture, thanks for sharing as you know we don't have a train in this part of our country... love to one even in photo only...

Nice shots. When we lived in Pennsylvania, we visited Horse Shoe Curve in Altoona to watch the trains. At some point, since it is horse shoe shaped, you can see the engine and caboose at the same time.

You captured the trains at the very good points. Great pictures. It is interesting that you also like to shoot trains. Is it because of Chase or me, a shutterbug of steam locomotives?

Carolyn, I have enjoyed your pics of the trains. We just went past this area Memorial Day weekend. I wanted to pull over and take some pics, but hubby said, "NO!", so we kept on driving...sigh...his father and grandfather both worked for the railroad in Pennsylvania. He has it in his blood. Have you been on the train at the Grand Canyon? We haven't ... YET!

Hubby and I love train travel and watching trains. Is it the power, the romance, the nostalgia? What ever it is they seem to call me.

Your baloon posts were great, you got some wonderful shots, great talent.

Trains are something my husband and I also enjoy watching, every vacation usually has at least one stop just to watch the trains go by.

I love the curved of the track and sense of movement in the first shot.

This takes «Louis» back to his childhood. He remembers riding a new Santa Fe passenger train from his hometown to visit his grandparents, his first trip alone. It was a big deal!
