This photo was taken on the Cabrillo Beach Pier in San Pedro, California, USA.
The Moon rises in the east as the Sun sets in the west.
People on the pier were all looking in the same direction hardly paying attention to their fishing poles.

Amazing sunset ... the moon in the pink pastel sky looks so lovely. And the composition with the fisherman in the front, makes the scenery perfect.

The solitude of one fishing is so often the payoff. The sky may not last, so get a glimpse while on the pier. The motion of the fish only needs to be felt, not seen - so follow the moon and relax...

I can see by the position of one of the rods that the sky had captured at least one fisherman's attention.
What a wonderful combination, though, fishing and skywatching. Somewhere I have two photos of my late father, fishing in the Yukon River at 1pm and 1am when the days in the far north were longest. It's just barely possible to tell the difference between the two times of day.
