Surfers, wind surfers and kite surfers all share a long stretch of beach on East Maui, Hawaii called Ho'okipa.
This area is well known around the world among the wind-surfing crowd.
It is late afternoon and the sun is peeking through the thick clouds creating fabulous light! There are three kite surfers and one wind surfer in this scene.
The wind is fierce with rain over the West Maui Mountains.
That's how these young people like it!
You can see a kite surfer among this group of wind surfers.
The sky is getting darker and darker.
West Maui is barely visible.
This guy is calling it a day!
...and they are not all guys!
This girl is from England and really enjoyed herself out there.
They are like "butterflies" on the water...

Gorgeous place, but it does look like a stormy day! Love the breakers! They're a lot braver than I am or ever was, but it does look like fun! Great shots for the day, Carolyn! Hope you have a grand week!

Those look like some fairly violent seas. When I was much younger I thought that looked like a lot of fun but I never tried it. It still looks like a lot of fun for them.
Well, I sure wouldn't mind being out there with you taking photos. What loveliness.
Tks for the comment - Tom's dog is anything but a fighter and a biter, or at least that was his demeanor along the lake there yesterday. Just a youngster though - only 15 wks old. Might change...
It looks like that weather made it extra challanging. Great captures as usual, Carolyn.
I love your butterfly analogy, Carolyn! These adventurers add a splash of color to the energetic sea.:)
I love how you called them butterflies of the water - that they are.
Happy Thanksgiving.
Wow !
Come invidio questi ragazzi !!!

That's something I'd love to try sometime. That looks like paradise from here, where my world was white when I woke up this morning.
I think wind surfing looks like so much fun. Great shots.
They are like butterflies! That's a great analogy -- and your pictures illustrate it perfectly.
What a lovely series of photos and you were in one of my most favorite places in the world, Hawaii. Looking forward to catching up on all your photos today.
Gorgeous, Carolyn! My husband thinks he would rather windsurf than surf. We'll find out for sure in a couple of weeks!

Beautiful photo's Carolyn, I like the title :)
I've always wanted to try wind surfing, but maybe when the winds are a little calmer. This looks too exciting for me.
Awesome awesome action shots! Great job.
Beautiful shots Carolyn ! And exactly as I recalled it from when my wife & I were there over a dozen years ago - the wind, the waves, the sand on the beach stinging our bare legs, and the windsurfers literally flying across the waves !
Such a lovely post. Thank you for sharing.
Great for the young and fit. I would not last 2 minutes in that surf.
you captured the surging waves so beautifully! terrific dynamic shots!
Beautiful photos and what a fun post. There was a time Im had the energy for such activities LOL. Have a great holiday
