This is a continuation of my images from the Salton Sea, California USA.
My husband and I drove out to the desert to explore this place once again after many years.
The area sits on the San Andras Fault and is just slightly higher than the lowest elevation in the USA, Death Valley carries that distinction.
Water drains into this area and carries with it a high salinity content.
The intensely salty water has changed this area greatly just over the past 40 years.
I used to water ski here when I was a kid and now boating seems to be history, only.
Fish die in great numbers and their carcasses can be found lining the shores of this pretty scene.
Of course, I will post photos of the shoreline soon...
just hold your noses, 'cuz it stinks!

Oh wow, this is a beautiful shot. Stinky fish or not I love both of your photos of this beach. The reflections are wonderful.
Carolyn, my daughter and I went down there when she was in high school and walked out on one of the beaches. My feet BURNED! And, yes, talk about dead fish! Ugh! It can "belch" and cover the whole valley with a horrible smell! I haven't been down there since we drove by it on our way to Anza Borrego. My school is 25 miles north of it. Glad you were in my neck of the woods, even if it was smelly!
you took a wonderful shot. i would like to someday explore this part of the state.
Thank you for sharing a nice and interesting area around you. I enjoyed my visit with you and your blog.
That was a really interesting photo.
Oh my goodness, this is a beautiful sea scene. How come the fish are dying?

Awesome shot! I've driven by the S.S. I even think I stopped at some point and touched the water. So long ago...Thanks for the vague memory! Now I'll need to go back. Enjoy March's beginning...
beautiful...
I have heard about it so much. It is on my bucket list for some reason.
Thank you (I think) for the updates on the Salton Sea. We spent parts of several winters there (at the Fountain of Youth RV Resort near Niland) and were fascinated with the eerie Lake and landscapes. Talked to several people who, like you, had spent time there when it was "alive". There was some efforts going on to preserve or recover the Lake then but I guess it didn't work out. (The first time we went was in 1999 and we went back a couple of other years, back several times, but not lately). The area around the Lake, the little towns, were terribly depressed and sad, I don't suppose that has gotten any better either.
Beautiful shot, really well-captured.
