This is Convict Lake in the Eastern Sierras of California USA.
My husband and I spent 5 days in this mountain region visiting many of the beautiful lakes, often called the Mammoth Lakes Region.
This is a deep blue lake loved by anglers, campers and hikers alike.
There is a 2 mile loop trail that circles the entire lake.
We took the trail in the early morning of our first day here.
The colors of mid-October were breath-taking.
The weather was perfect (on this day)...temperatures in the 60's during the day and the low 40's at night,
perfect for a day of hiking trails which began at Convict Lake.
This lake is known for its clear and deep blue water.
The trail led us through some wonderful aspen and cottonwood groves in glorious color.
The leaves were beginning to fall so I think the trees are bare by now, two weeks later.
Only a few people were on the water.
I couldn't resist photographing these branches hanging over the water.
A little farther down the trail I spotted these three men enjoying themselves.
They were all in their own worlds...I didn't hear any conversation between them.
...and a little splash of red just for my camera!
That was our morning at Convict Lake before moving on to another trail that led us to Rainbow Falls beyond Devil's Post Pile...another glorious 3 miles.
