Color Carnival, Mellow Yellow Monday and Ruby Tuesday, / Claret Cup Cactus AKA Mojave Mound Cactus in Joshua Tree National Park, California USA

This is the Claret Cup Cactus AKA Mojave Mound Cactus blooming ever so nicely at Joshua Tree National Park which is about a 2 hour
drive from my home, and northeast from Palm Springs, California.

We spent our day on several loop trails around the park and found this cactus along our way in many places.
These were found on the Hidden Valley Loop Trail.

There were so many more off the edge of the trail where I chose NOT to venture for the chance of meeting up with a rattlesnake!

We eventually took the Barker Dam Loop Trail...

and found this beauty nestled near the water.

No deserts in Ohio to explore so thanks for sharing your adventure. I wonder would a Christmas Cactus count?

Our deserts are truly ablaze with color. Love the "bouquet" at the water's edge.

P.S. The CAPTCHA for the comment verifiation is "mulared." Rather fitting, don't you think?

Beautiful! We saw some of these plants in Death Valley but they were not yet in bloom. I was wondering what the blooms would look like so I really appreciate this post.
The beaver tail are now in bloom at Death Valley and they were just starting to bloom when we were at Anza Borego. You can't get all the blooms in one trip.

claret cups are so beautiful. I miss seeing them this year since we aren't in Texas. They would always be the first to bloom. Beautiful shots of them! and i love the last one where they add a burst of color!
