PhotoHunter / Free Week

I spent an afternoon driving around this area looking for abandoned houses, barns, and broken down fences. I found a lot to photograph. This is just one...I have more to share soon.

This old abandoned barn is in the dairy country of Chino, California. Dairy farms were once thriving way of life here but, now, many have been taken over by housing developments and other businesses. This land, I am sure, will be a housing development in the near future! Sadly, this old photogenic and abandoned barn will be gone and the historical value of this area will go with it.

Weekend Reflections, SkyWatch Friday / Palm Springs, California

These reflections were captured a few days ago in Palm Springs, California. It was our first day trip back to the area with cooler and very pleasant daytime temperatures! This giant window captured the palms, mountains and sky to the west of town. It's the front window to Dinks Restaurant. As you can see, different focal points create different reflected scenes.

True Colours Thursday / "Pink"

I am going back into my archived photos for this "pink" post. "Pink" in my life is the amazing Sakura trees in full bloom during my visit to Japan in mid-March of 2008. I was there with my friend, Sally, and we watched the trees transform from the bud stage to full bloom over a 2 week period. My friends, Kenkichi and Yuki-ye took us to see so many others in Yatsushiro, Kumamoto City and on the Amakusa Islands. Late March and early April is a splendid time to visit Japan if you like all shades of "pink!"

This was our last day so we had the morning and early afternoon to go out and see the cherry blossoms one more time in Tokyo. It was a very gray day with threatening rain. The rain did hold off until we got to the airport! Then it poured! We were lucky to have the last few hours rain-free. I only had a simple "point and shoot" camera for the still shots then. In fact, Sally took these photos. I was using a video camera to pan the scenes across hillsides, castle grounds, and parks. I wish I had had my Canon then...but, I didn't. I guess I will have to go back!?

Outdoor Wednesday #40 / Chase Imitating Skateboard Moves

It was a nice cool day in southern California, the day before the 1st storm of the fall season was to arrive. I photographed some middle school kids in the downtown area riding skateboards. The local business people were not amused with these kids but I was! My 2 year old grandson was spellbound with all the activity and soon started imitating what they were doing. Then my camera moved to catch him jumping around with his "imaginary" skateboard. I love the colors and textures in these photos (and my grandson too).

Ellipsis Monday Photo Shoot / 1 Subject 4 Perspectives

Ellipsis Monday Photo Shoot

The theme is 1 subject 4 different perspectives / My neighbors go all out for Halloween decorations and they create a classy front yard! I chose the "skeleton ghost" for this assignment. It was rainy today and the sky was literally white! I actually like the eerie effect better than when I photographed the same subject with a clear blue sky.

Ruby Tuesday / Native American Patterns

These colorful place-mats were displayed in a store in downtown Palm Springs. They are of a Native American pattern. I would love to own all of the patterns which would look terrific with my white dishes!

Camera Critters #79 / Peacock at Oak Glen, California

This beauty and many others are at Oak Glen, California. The tail feathers belong to a different bird that raced around and was quite a challenge to photograph. At least I got the tail!

Weekend Reflections / Mirrors at the Los Angeles County Fair on October 1, 09

These 3 photos are reflections on mirrors that were for sale at the Los Angeles County Fair on October 1, 09. The images are trees, etc., across from the kiosk. There were a lot of mirrors and other wall hangings stacked together that created a menagerie of reflected images.
