360° views of Auckland, New Zealand from the Southern Hemisphere's tallest structure, the Sky Tower.
328meters UP and a view of Waitemata Harbour.
The Auckland Harbour Bridge
I loved the heart shape of St. Mary's Bay.
They drive on the left...with only an occasional reminder that the Christmas Season is approaching.
A view opposite the water-front.
Quite a lovely city, no doubt!
This is the only motor-way we saw on the entire trip.
Two lane roads cover the North and South Islands from top to bottom.
Auckland is known as the City of Sails...this was a quiet Tuesday with not too many boats on the water.
November 20, 2012
It was nearly impossible to capture the true color of this city through the tinted glass of the tower.
Almost 180,000 Pacific Islanders live in Auckland, making it the world's principle Polynesian city.
Samoans are the largest group, followed by Cook Islanders, Tongans, Niueans, Fijians, Tokelauans and Tuvaluans.
Spiderman Activities offers bungy jumping from 40m off the Auckland Harbour Bridge or a chance to climb to the arch of the bridge for a 1 1/2 hour tour.
People were jumping from this very tower as we gazed at the city from the 60th floor observation deck.
They passed the windows so quickly that it was impossible to get their pic from up here.
These two shots were taken from a lower level (52nd floor).
There is some great glass for reflections in this city.
My feet...standing on glass looking at the street below from the 52nd floor.
Jerry's feet...same glass same floor!
Tempting activities but not for us!
A gin and tonic for Jerry and me!
A few more boats have come out for the late afternoon and evening.
Summer Season begins December 1...they are getting in the mood!
A view of the Sky Tower from the entrance to our hotel...it's WAY UP THERE!
A view of the Sky Tower from the entrance to our hotel...it's WAY UP THERE!
Our flight arrived at 7:37 a.m. We got to the Sky City Grand Hotel across from this Sky Tower, checked in, stored our luggage and then started walking!
We had a little late lunch at the Sky City Casino and then returned to the hotel to meet our tour group at 5:30.
Our New Zealand Adventure has begun!
