This tree is on U.S. Highway 395 south of Lone Pine, California...along the eastern Sierra Nevada Mountain Range. I don't know what kind of tree it was...but, I do know it is dead and picturesque. I photographed this tree while at a rest stop along the highway on our way to Mammoth Lakes, California in July, 09.

What a beautiful shot!
Hello Carolyn :)
Welcome to the Monday Photo Shoot. I believe this is the first time you are playing with us... correct?
Love the tree you chose. I don't know why, maybe it is my love of autumn and winter, but I find trees like this one so picturesque. I have a walnut tree in my yard that is, well, deceased, and I don't have the heart to do away with it. It has inspired me so many times in silouette against a firey sunset sky. :) I love visiting the sierras in autumn, so much beauty to take in. Thanks so much or participating this week, hope to see you again!
Always, Carly
Nice shot. You did a great job of placing the tree in the frame and the setting is gorgeous.
Dead trees and ones that are completely bare make for great photographic subjects. The branches are always strong elements, and to put it against the backdrop you have here....wonderful!!!

Nice. I've heard great things about Mammoth Lakes. I'd love to visit there some time as well.
That is a majestic tree, even though dead. Nice shot!
In death a giant is still a giant.
Your photograph records this fact perfectly.
