SkyWatch Friday and Looking at the Sky on Friday / The Road to Valley of Fire, Nevada

My husband and I spent the Presidents' Weekend in Las Vegas doing what everyone does in Las Vegas, except during the day.
We have to get out of town!
We took a day trip to the Valley of Fire which is only about 70 miles east of  Las Vegas.
This is about as scenic as any drive can be.
We left the city of Las Vegas on Las Vegas Boulevard and traveled to the entrace of the Lake Mead National Park.
Then we continued on the North Shore Road eastward through very colorful desert scenes.
There are several side roads that lead down to the shores of Lake Mead, but, we saved those for the next day.
There were very few cars on the road...some bicycles...some motorcycles.
It was a bright and sunny day!
No jackets required!
Fabulous!
Please click on photos to enlarge!

We passed through the Bowl of Fire.
You don't need a sign to know when you are in the bowl!

Most of these photos were taken while in the car...honest...my husband was driving, not me!

We loved this scene!

These guys traveled quite a few miles on bicycles!
It was a perfect day to be on a motorcycle too!
This is the entrance to the Valley of Fire.
My next post will have those photos...
Please come back!

That fifth shot is a stunner! Incredible capture, Carolyn, although I love all of them and the place is so aptly named! Does indeed look like a "bowl of fire"! Hope you had a great trip and have a super weekend!

Beautiful photo's.

Great colours in the rocks and the hillsides here, Carolyn. Reminds me so much of the centre of Australia. I bet the temperatures reach the same too.

I have never wanted to go to the city of Las Vegas but I would definitely like to see the beautiful countryside outside the city. It is gorgeous!

I haven't often considered the beauty of the desert. I have been to the AZ desert in the middle of Summer. and it seemed gray. Perhaps the desert West has such beauty as it is the point just before the Spring bloom, and the sun at the proper angle for beauty. The fiery bronze hue of the rocks is so lovely. Nice capture!

I'll vote for the fifth photo too, although they all are gorgeous. I've never been to that part of our country.

The Bowl of Fire with the reddish rocks is an amazing sight.

Thanks for visiting me!

What gorgeous country, I'm loving all of your gorgeous posts from the park. I'd love to see it myself someday.

The sky is lovely, but that is not what catches my eye in your photos... it would be the mountainous backdrop and the array of colors!
