Weekend Reflections / Mirrored Reflections of the High Desert

This image is a reflection in my side view mirror on the driver's side of my car.
I took a drive out to the high desert a few days ago mainly to photograph these rocks on Highway 138 just west of Interstate 15.
This highway takes skiers and snowboarders to the Wrightwood Ski area, and beyond, along the north side of the San Gabriel Mountain Range...or the high desert side.
You can see the bridge that carries freight trains, one after another, through the mountain pass here.
I was waiting for a train to pass but, it took longer than I could wait.
Isn't that Murphy's Law?
Any other time they are only 10 to 15 minutes apart.

This is the same view in the mirror but I widened the angle to catch what I could see looking ahead.
Yes...I was the driver, but I parked on a side road to get these shots!
As you can see...still NO train!

Thank you, James, for hosting this meme!

It is fun to see the desert through your rear view mirror.

It's amazing to see such huge rocks heaved up like that. Beautiful shots.

I know and you know that we have to be patient if we want a good picture! I would like to take a picture like you did using a rearview mirror.

Great reflections Carolyn! It's like a portal to another world perhaps the Land of the Lost. I also like the way we can see what's in front and behind at the same time in the bottom photo.

Your catch is beautyful, with or without train!Ü

What a clever way to do that and get your reflections theme at the same time. Nice shots.

Very clear and the view is worth the drive.

Great rocky views, I really like the framing on the first shot. The train probably showed up five minutes after you left, isn't that the way it usually works?

Excellent! I like the second one that gives the rear and front looking perspective.

Excellent shots through the mirror. What unusual landscape. My sister-in-law lives in Wrightwood. I've driven past the exit that heads up into the mountains, but I've never headed up there. It looks very intriguing!

Is this alpine? Your landscape is similar to ours here. We have a stretch called dessert road. Very dangerous in winter.

Your mirror image is really good.

I just saw those rocks last week on our to and from Utah.
Great perspective using the mirror!
