Mellow Yellow Monday / San Gabriel Mission, San Gabriel, California USA

Please click on photos to enlarge!
I took my little grandson to the San Gabriel Mission last week for a little day trip.
I hadn't been there in so many years.
It's just as beautiful as I remembered it to be...
just older.
This mission was founded in 1771,
and was the 4th of the 21 California missions to be built.

The graves in the mission cemetery had remarkable but simple headstones.
This one caught my attention.

This is such a tiny little church.
The alter is so beautiful.
A small choir loft was behind me and the prayer candles were glowing in the back.

I'm glad you took a lot of photos of this place, cause they're all great and the place is so neat. Great stuff again! I went to a mission in San Antonio a couple years ago for Easter and wouldn't have minded spending some more time there!

I also love the sight of old churches. The last one here reminds me of the Assumption Church my Thai friends brought me here in Bangkok recently. They told me it's one of the oldest missions established here in Thailand.

A beautiful photo essay Carolyn!
I love that a little yellow leaf dotted the headstone. :)
The inside of the church is awesome. Wonderful framing of the image and light streaming in.

One of my goals is to visit a lot of the CA missions. So far I have visited 3.

The plaques depict a lot of information.

Cal's missions are such hidden gems. I really need to get out and go visit some of the ones around here in the SF Bay Area. Great shots you've posted here. Hope your grandson enjoyed the visit too. Thanks for stopping by at my posts!
